Frequently Asked Questions

What is Aromatherapy?

According to National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), aromatherapy is also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, and can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.

It is a natural, non-invasive method designed to affect the whole person not just the symptom or disease and to assist the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself by the correct use of essential oils.

What is an Essential Oil?

Essential oils are concentrated forms of plant essence found in the flowers, leaves, stems, seeds, roots and other parts of the plant. They are the life blood of the plant. They seal the cut, protect the wound, provide nutrients for cells and guard against harmful micro-organisms. Without the essential oils, the plant will not live.

Are Essential Oils the same as fragrance oils?

No. Essential oils are undiluted essence distilled from plants. Fragrance oils are synthetically created in a laboratory. Many essential oils in the market are highly adulterated or diluted with fragrance oil, so buying the finished product from a reputable company who practices high standard of quality control is very important for every consumer to consider.

Are Essential Oils only for aromatherapy?

Essential Oils are highly concentrated plant extracts intended for aromatherapeutic use. Due to the high potency of pure essential oils, consultation with a trained professional for recommended dilutions is necessary before using essential oils for any purpose other than aromatherapy, for example ingestion and topical use.

What are the different uses of Essential Oils?

There are many different uses of essential oils. Due to the natural aromatic properties, essential oils are added as fragrance to cosmetics and can also be diffused through water to improve indoor air.

Wellness and healing properties are associated with essential oils. In the case of colds and flu, steam inhalation of certain essential oils is often found to be soothing and to alleviate symptoms. Diluted essential oils can be applied to skin for more effective results, under the direction and instruction of a trained professional.

Can Essential Oils be eaten/ ingested?

The practice of casually recommending oil ingestion is careless and irresponsible. Therefore, the internal use of essential oils should only be administered under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner. This recommendation is in line with the regulatory requirements of the Malaysian health authorities and the recommendations of independent experts who specialize in essential oil safety.

Do Essential Oils have a grading system to tell which is better?

There is no official grading system that grades essential oils as A, B, C or Therapeutic grade. All truSÈNSSE pure essential oils are accurately labelled as such. It is the quality control process of how essential oils are manufactured that should be referred to as a guide in choosing what is best for us.

Does country of origin tell us about the quality of the oil?

There is no grading system that is currently in place to define the quality of essential oils. Country of origin is not necessarily the best method to “grade” an essential oil. It is the quality control process of how essential oils are manufactured that every consumer should refer to as a guide. This is why buying essential oils from a reputable company whom you can trust is of the utmost importance.

How are truSÈNSSE Essential Oils made?

truSÈNSSE lavender, peppermint and lemongrass essential oils are highly concentrated plant essences that are carefully extracted through steam distillation. Read our S.A.F.E. commitment.

What testing do truSÈNSSE essential oils go through to ensure the consistency, purity and quality conform to optimal standards?

Tupperware Brands’s quality assurance, supply chain and product teams practice rigorous selection of suppliers and strict quality checks for every batch of essential oils. We ensure truSÈNSSE essential oils contain no adulterants by conducting rigorous oil testing with a stringent quality control process that conforms to international standards.

All truSÈNSSE essential oils go through at least 4 levels of inspections (raw material producers, trade suppliers, manufacturers, TupperwareBrands QA department) and at least 10 different tests to support and verify all product-related claims (see diagram below).

When do truSÈNSSE Essential Oils expire?

They are all good for up to 3 years if stored properly. They need to be kept in cool, dry place and the cap should always be put on tightly after every use. Essential oils expire because of a process called oxidation, which is usually caused by contact with oxygen and moisture. Use your essential oils quickly within 12 months after opening before the oils turn rancid.

What precautions should I take when using Essential Oils?

  1. Always consult individual product labels for usage directions.
  2. For external use only, unless being instructed by a trained professional on other usages.
  3. Maybe irritating to skin. Dilute for direct application.
  4. Avoid contact with eyes.
  5. Keep out of reach of children.
  6. Not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease. If pregnant, nursing or having a medical condition, consult a health professional prior to use.

Which countries do the truSÈNSSE essential oil series originated from?

The Lavender, Peppermint and Eucalyptus essential oils are distilled and manufactured in Australia; Lemongrass is distilled and manufactured in India.

Can we also get a blend book for different recipes and usages?

We already have some blend suggestions here or you can turn to page 7 (for Eng) and page 17 (for BM) in the information booklet.

Some EO from others brands can be used to make soap. How about truSÈNSSE EO?

Yes, definitely truSÈNSSE EO esp. lavender can be used to make natural, plant-based soaps. Not all EOs is suitable to make soaps for e.g. Peppermint might be too strong for the skin due to the oil’s stimulating nature.

Is all essential oil made from organically grown plants?

Not all EO can be certified organic, esp. in Malaysia, there is currently no standard or regulatory body available to check those claims on EO. As a smart consumer, it is advisable to read product labels and make sure you buy from reputable companies who you can trust.

What is the function for each essential oil and when/where to use it?

Lavender EO contains linalool which is to provide you a sense of calmness and relaxation when you breathe in the scent. Good to diffuse it 30 mins before sleep to calm the active mind. Peppermint EO contains menthol which is to keep you bright and awake during work and studies. It has a cooling sensation which will keep minds refreshed and focused while diffusing it at the office. Lemongrass EO contains citral which acts as a natural anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory agent which is suitable to be diffused in the living room and kitchen to keep moulds and insects off.

Is it safe to use EO for individuals who have Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD)?

Yes, it is safe to use through the inhalation way (breathe in through air).

Florea 3-in-1  Aroma Diffuser

What is the capacity of the Diffuser? What is the optimum operating hour for a diffuser with max capacity? (Optimum as in to maintain the same concentration of essential oils).

The capacity is to fill 150-200ml (below max level) water per tank. The optimum operating hours (based on tests done on sample unit) is up to 8-9 hours for water to dry up totally. Timing depends on water level and moisture around the diffuser.

How do we use the essential oils in a diffuser for therapeutic effect?

Depending on proximity and size of room, the best way to achieve therapeutic effect with the use of a diffuser is to use a higher concentration of essential oils (add more drops) and diffuse it in a short period of time. Put 8-10 drops into water, and run it on continuous mode for not more than 2 hours in medium to large spaces (> 13 square meter / 139.931 square foot). If your room is small (≤ 13 square meter / 139.931 square foot), you can diffuse 5-8 drops on continuous mode not more than 30 mins per time of usage.

If I just want to give a nice scent or to de-odorize my room, how should I use the diffuser with my essential oils?

If you would like to put on the diffuser for longer hours or continuous mode (other than therapeutic purposes), add 3-5 drops in water to scent your room or to uplift your mood.
